JUDI CHAN Take Me Home July 29 - September 3, 2011 Judi Chan's new work Take Me Home, is a collection of six drawings based on her cat Ringo, focusing on the cat as a sensitive and loving creature. Chan's special affection for Ringo, who literally wandered into her life, reverberates in every graphite stroke, with fur applied like caresses and highlights like kisses. Delicate and ethereal, Chan's work brings to mind the practice of Victorian Spirit photography, where a subject's inner self was captured as a mist of energy, as her reverence for Ringo shines through - in a very subtle fashion. Judi Chan was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Auckland, New Zealand in 1994. After graduation in 2006, she moved to Canada. Currently she lives and works in Edmonton as a graphic designer/illustrator at Vanguard Works and Studio Tipi and continues to practice fine art. |
